Introducing Nahli

Tom Prest • Oct 14, 2020

We welcome Nahli to the Rebel Records Roster.

Essex native and London resident NAHLI may not be a household name yet but that is set to change this year as she emerges from the shadows to become a bona fide star in her own right.

Born into a musical family, NAHLI developed her own love for singing and performing at a very young age, influenced by superstars such as Michael Jackson but also her own parents, both of whom are professional singers themselves. This exposure to the industry up close allowed NAHLI to see both sides of the life of an artist, amazing highs when you are on stage performing but also the lows and anxieties which many performers face during their journey. As she got older NAHLI took music more seriously and decided that rather than just being a hobby or something which she enjoyed it was something which she wanted to make a career of. With an eclectic taste in music, from Tupac to Led Zeppelin to Britney Spears NAHLI has spent years developing her own sound. Whilst some may describe it as pop soul, it is actually hard to box her music into one genre, with influences from pop, jazz, rock and roll and hip hop all evident in her music.

The pivotal moment in NAHLI’s career was linking up with the producer Davinche, who made his name as one of the foremost producers in the Grime scene by crafting hits for Kano and others. Having developed an almost instant connection, NAHLI and Davinche set about creating a body of work which would encapsulate the many sides of NAHLI. Whilst working on her debut EP ‘Therapy (Side A)’ NAHLI also began to work with a number of established, including Crystal Fighters and Professor Green before being invited to collaborate and tour in front of thousands of people across Europe with SIGMA.

Having followed up the release of her EP with a second project ‘Therapy (Side B)’ NAHLI partnered with Rebel Records to release her first official single ‘Catch 22’. Over an eclectic, garage inspired beat, produced by Davinche, NAHLI showcases her incredible vocals and brings in the irrepressible Big Narstie to add his own unique flavour.

Catch 22 is sure to be just the first of many releases from NAHLI over the next 12 months and is definitely an artist to keep an eye on as she has the potential to be one of the biggest talents in the country.

Despite being just 16 years old, Junior Andre has already been a household name in the UK for over a decade. As the son of Peter Andre and Katie Price, Junior has been a reality tv star since he was a child and having grown up in the media spotlight is now ready to take the next step in his career and establish himself as a credible recording artist and a star in his own right. Junior has been surrounded by music since a young age. His father Peter has been releasing music and performing worldwide for almost 30 years now. Alongside the inspiration Junior drew from watching his dads career, he also has several uncles and family members who are also musicians. Growing up in a household that loved music and with vast experience of being in front of the camera it was only a matter of time before he started making music himself. In early 2021 his dad Peter decided to bring Junior along with him to a session at Rebel Studios. Immediately excited by the process of writing and recording music it wasn't long before Junior was in the studio every week. Influenced by R&B, UK rap, Drill and Pop music Junior spent months experimenting making music in the studio, but most importantly having fun. Whilst these early sessions were just designed to allow Junior to become familiar with the recording process and gain confidence in his own abilities, it was quickly evident to everyone at Rebel that Junior possessed an immense natural talent for music. As well as being eager to learn from those around him, Junior quickly picked up on the advice he was being given by the Rebel team and was rapidly improving all aspects of his artistry. Within a few months it was clear to everyone that Junior was ready to make his mark in the music industry and he officially signed to Rebel Records. Whilst working on his debut project Junior began to attract the attention of the UKs biggest labels and in Summer 2021 signed a deal to release his upcoming EP via Rebel Records and Columbia Records. With production from some of the scenes best producers this project will establish Junior as a true star in the music industry. Follow Rebel Records instagram (@rebelrecs) for more information on Junior's music and release dates for his project.

Hailing from Croydon in South London, Richard "RP9" Tucker is one of the most exciting and talented young producers in the UK today. In addition to his production skills he is also an accomplished engineer and despite only being in his early twenties he has already contributed to releases from some of the UK's biggest household names, including Peter Andre, Gemma Collins, Craig David, KSI and Yxng Bane. Born and raised in the Thornton Heath area of Croydon, music was a part of RP9's life from an early age. This was almost inevitable considering that his mother is a classically trained pianist. As well as playing the piano at home, RP9's mum also passed her love of playing the piano on to her son, spending hours teaching him how to play throughout his childhood. As RP9 grew older so did his love for music and other parts of his life outside of his home, whether it be spending time at church or his south London school days, began to influence his musical tastes and whilst he still a teenager he made the decision that music was more than just a passion and was something that he wanted to pursue as a full time career. Thornton Heath has been a hotbed for talent in recent years having produced some of the biggest names in the UK music scene today, including Stormzy, Krept and Konan and SL. With many of his peers also pursuing their dreams of making it in the music industry RP9 quickly began to link up and work with local artists across South London. These sessions provided him with vital experience of not only working across genres but also the intricacies of working with a diverse roster of artists. It was in these sessions that RP9 also perfected his craft when it came to engineering. The lessons he learnt during these times helped RP9 develop his skills quickly and as word of his talent began to spread through the music industry he began to work with more established artists, such as Chip, AJ and Deno and Sophia Grace. In late 2020, RP9 began working with Rebel Records on a freelance basis but it was evident from the very beginning that he would be a great addition to the Rebel Records family and that his talent and drive will help take the label to the next level. In 2021 and beyond, RP9s star is sure to rise as he will continue to work with and produce for some of the industries biggest names. He is also taking a leading role in the upcoming JJ Esko EP, which will be released by Rebel Records, and his work on this project will alert many in the industry to RP9's immense talent so keep an eye on the name because if he carries on this way it won't be long before he is at the very top.

Hailing from the notorious Highfields area of Leicester in the East Midlands region of the UK, JJ Esko is one of the most talented up and coming rappers in the UK rap scene today and is set for a big 2021 as he partners with Rebel Records to release his official debut EP. As one of only a handful of British Asian rappers in the scene, there is significant pressure on JJ from his loyal and fervent fan base to deliver a project which will not only solidify his standing as a leading light amongst the new class of British rappers but also to be successful and help open the doors for other Asian rappers. Whilst this may be a lot of pressure for most new artists, JJ is ready to take on that responsibility and show his talent to the world. Despite only being in his early twenties, JJ has already experienced many hardships in life from the loss of close family members to spending time in jail as a teenager. In 2018, JJ decided that he wanted to pursue his passion for music more seriously and focus on a career which would mean he would never be sent to jail again and began writing music which reflected his turbulent upbringing and the street life he had been living. Buoyed by the positive feedback from his peers, and the local community, JJ released a string of singles throughout the year which helped him build a buzz in the scene as well as a loyal and passionate fanbase. He continued this consistency into 2019 with singles including 'Bandz', 'Winning' and 'Sort' and culminating in the release of the song "Opp Block" which has over 1 million streams and garnered over 2 million views on YouTube to date. JJ continued 2020 in the same vein he ended 2019, releasing new music which not only highlighted his immense talent but also his growth as an artist, this is most evident in the 'One Mic' and 'Hype on the Mic' freestyles he recorded for GRM Daily and BBC Asian Network respectively. 2021 is set to be a career defining year for JJ who has a collaboration with international phenomenon Imran Khan set for release early in the year followed by the release of his official debut EP which is sure to establish him as one of the premiere talents in the scene today. Look out for a host of new music and content from JJ Esko and Rebel Records coming in the next 12 months.

British newcomer NAHLI returns with her momentous new single ‘Catch 22’, a luxurious, defiantly old-skool UK Garage inspired track that features South London’s legendary Big Narstie. ‘Catch 22’ is released globally on October 16th 2020 and serves as the debut release from Independent label and studio, Rebel Records. Hailing from Essex, and living in London, NAHLI is a multifaceted talent. Her soulful sound is rich with tender feeling and her unapologetic songwriting and delivery is mature beyond her years. The Pop-Soul artist-on-the-rise owns a personality as warm as her vocals are soulful and she’s endearingly honest - there’s as much grit to her undeniable British tone as there is sincerity. Mixed by MSM (Drake, Skepta, Wretch 32) and produced by long-term collaborator DaVinche, the track sees NAHLI continue her assured ascent to the upper echelons of new stars emerging from the UK and follows last year’s debut EP ‘Therapy [Side A]’. Teaming up with Big Narstie for ‘Catch 22’ finds NAHLI in familiar territory, having previously featured on Professor Green’s ‘Bad Decisions’, Conducta’s ‘Only U’ and Crystal Fighters ‘Costa Rica’. Big Narstie himself needs little introduction. He is a revolutionary artist in his own right and a master of his craft. The effervescent entertainer (and national treasure) is one of the UK’s top talents and lends his street inspired raps and larger than life personality to ‘Catch 22’, which pair perfectly with NAHLI’s sophisticated modern soul-pop sound. On linking up for the track, Big Narstie tells it how it is:” 'I love this tune. It has that old-skool feeling what makes you wanna skank (dance) It’s got a beautiful vocal from NAHLI with a hard beat from DaVinche. I can’t wait to perform this one when we get back to the live shows. Also, it was a big pleasure being part of the first Rebel Records release! On the bittersweet inspiration behind the song, NAHLI explains; “Catch 22 is about being stuck in that weird middle ground of not being together in a relationship but being ‘exclusive’. But you don’t actually know if they’re matching your exclusivity. This generation is nuts for that. But you can’t stop the cycle because the toxicity is addictive. It's kinda hot. So…you don’t know whether to leave or whether to stay. Catch 22.” NAHLI’s bold visual aesthetic is proof of this striking new talent’s deep and long-standing obsession with music and the Arts, which is reflected in the video for ‘Catch 22’. ‘Catch 22’ is just the beginning for NAHLI, coming as the first track to be taken from the singer-songwriter’s forthcoming EP, slated for release in 2021.
